Four men's basketball players collect academic honors

Four Hamilton College men's basketball players have earned spots on the 2017-18 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court.

Matthew Moros '18 (Somers, N.Y./Somers HS) and Joe Pucci '18 (New York, N.Y./Hill School [Pa.]) received the award for the second time while Andrew Groll '19 (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills HS) and Michael Grassey '19 (Winchester, Mass./Winchester HS) picked up their first honor from the NABC. Groll and Moros made the 2018 NESCAC Winter All-Academic Team back in March.

A student-athlete has to meet four criteria to be eligible for the Honors Court. They need to be a junior or senior on the varsity team and their cumulative grade point average should be 3.2 or better at the end of the 2017-18 academic year. They must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution and the coach needs to be an NABC member at an NCAA or NAIA school.

Grassey averaged 12.8 points in 29 games last season. He was ninth in the NESCAC with 7.1 rebounds per contest and shot 38.1 percent from 3-point range. Groll averaged 7.4 points and 6.1 reounds in 28 games and went 65-for-88 (73.9 percent) at the free-throw line. Pucci averaged 5.7 points as he started all 29 games and ended up 10th in the NESCAC in 3-point shooting percentage at 40 percent (40-100). Moros scored 20 points in 13 games and was 5 of 11 from long distance.
