Former Hamilton College men's hockey goaltender Evan Buitenhuis '18 was named to the New York Islanders Training Camp roster on Thursday, September 13.
The 68-man camp roster was split into groups A, B and C. Buitenhuis is one of three goalies in Group C.
Buitenhuis wrapped up a week-long Rookie Camp on Wednesday night as the starting goalie in the Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers prospect game.
Buitenhuis received the 2017 Sid Watson Award from the American Hockey Coaches Association as the NCAA Division III Men's Player of the Year. He was a NESCAC men's hockey all-conference selection three times, including the first team in 2016 and 2017, and was named the 2017 player of the year.
During the 2017-18 season, Buitenhuis led Division III and set program single-season records with a 1.28 goals against average and .954 save percentage, and tied for second in the nation with four shutouts. He boasted an 8-3-3 record but made just 14 starts due to injury.
Buitenhuis ended his collegiate career as the Continentals' all-time leader in goals against average (1.67) and save percentage (.944) in 67 starts and more than 4,000 minutes. His 1,901 career saves are good for fourth on the program's all-time list, and he posted a 39-16-12 record with 10 shutouts.
