Hamilton College's Matt Casadei '19 scored in the 56th minute and the Continentals went on to post a 1-0 non-conference win against the SUNY Polytechnic Institute Wildcats at Hamilton's Love Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Thomas Benson '22 needed to make just one save to register his third shutout for the Continentals. Benson lowered his goals against average to 0.62 and raised his save percentage to .902. Hamilton has six victories by a 1-0 decision this year and seven shutouts overall.

The Continentals (7-5-0 overall) dominated play for the vast majority of the contest. Hamilton enjoyed a 23-8 shot advantage and took six corner kicks to SUNY Poly's three.

Nathan Laughlin kept the Wildcats (4-5-3) in it as he made six of his nine saves in the second half.

Noah Giovannelli '21 set the play in motion that led to the game-winning goal. Giovannelli lofted the ball from just over midfield to Jeff Plump '20 at the edge of the 18-yard box. Plump trapped the ball with his chest and got off a hard, right-footed shot from a few yards to the right of the penalty-kick spot. Laughlin dove feet-first and kicked the ball into a teammate's leg. Casadei one-timed the loose ball from about 10 yards out into the wide-open net for his second goal this year and the sixth of his collegiate career. Plump was credited with his third assist this year and his eighth in the last two seasons.

Roth Wetzel '22 nearly gave the Continentals a lead less than 30 seconds into the first half when his left-footed shot from just outside the goal area banged off the left post and caromed off to the right of the net.

Hamilton had another great chance within the first few seconds of the start of the second half. Greg Milnarik '19 played the ball more than 50 yards upfield to Plump, who had raced past the defense and into the box. Plump's shot from about 15 yards out was turned away by Laughlin and cleared by the SUNY Poly defense.

The Continentals are home again on Saturday, Oct. 13 against NESCAC foe Bowdoin College at 1:30 p.m. Hamilton will honor its seven seniors prior to the start of the contest.
