Men’s tennis excels at St. Lawrence Fall Classic

The Hamilton College men's tennis team reached the finals in three events at the 2017 St. Lawrence University Fall Classic on September 9 and 10.

Max Zimmerman '21 defeated Sonhaj Somani of Rochester 9-7 in the first round. He then defeated back-to-back St. Lawrence opponents to advance to the "B" singles flight finals. Zimmerman inched by Jordan Mamelak 9-8 in the quarterfinal, and he made quick work of Miles Barry in the semifinal with scores of 6-2, 6-3. Hobart's Walker Anderson defeated Zimmerman 6-0, 6-3 in the "B" singles flight championship.

Jafar Sharipov '21 had two 8-4 triumphs in the first and quarterfinal rounds over Rochester's Damani Eubanks and RIT's David Trimmer. He took down Arman Tavana of St. Lawrence 6-4, 6-1 in the semifinal but fell short in the "C" singles flight finals by scores of 6-4, 6-3 against Rochester's Peter Huang.

Lars Scannell '19 and Sam Farber '20 defeated Huang and Mevorach of Rochester 9-7 in the opening round of the "A" doubles flight. Tim Derby '21 and Rob Dotterer '21 also faced off against Rochester in the first round, defeating Somani and Thakkar 8-6. The Hamilton pairs took down both of their opponents from Ithaca 8-4 in the quarterfinal before confronting one another in the semifinal. Veteran mates Scannell and Farber outlasted Derby and Dotterer 8-3 to advance. Hobart's Salita and Dubrovsky posted an 8-2 score to win the "A" flight over Scannell and Farber.

Matt May '21 and Zimmerman received a first round bye in the "B" doubles flight. They worked past RIT's Peters and Matthews 9-7 before falling in the semifinal to Hobart 8-1.

Hamilton travels to Union College on September 16 and 17 for the Dutchman Invitational.
