The Hamilton College men's tennis team opens the fall season with the 2018 St. Lawrence University Fall Classic on Saturday, Sept. 8 and Sunday, Sept. 9.

Matthew Haas '19 is the team captain and lone senior on an 18-player roster dominated by six freshmen and seven sophomores. Head coach Matt Brisotti enters his first full season after he was hired to lead the men's and women's programs last winter.

The Continentals' 5-11 dual match record last season is a bit deceiving as three of the losses were by 5-4 scores and seven setbacks were against opponents ranked in the Top 40 in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The Hamilton men ended last season on a high note with a 7-2 win against Connecticut College -- the program's first NESCAC victory in five years.

Five players reached double figures in singles wins last season. Max Zimmerman '21 led the way with 15, including a 3-3 record against conference opponents, and he was the "B" flight champion at the 2017 Union College Dutchmen Invitational. Rob Dotterer '21 recorded 11 victories and Tim Derby '21, Sam Farber '20 and Jafar Sharipov '21 posted 10 each. Andrew Wei '20 was the "D" flight winner at Union last fall.

Farber and Dotterer were the top doubles pairing with a 9-7 record, and Derby and Zimmerman added six more doubles wins. Overall, Farber was part of 15 doubles victories, followed by Dotterer's 11 and Derby's nine.

The Hamilton men have a tournament at Union College (Sept. 15 and 16) and the ITA Northeast Regional Championships at Hobart (Sept. 28-30) still to come this fall. The Continentals have more than a dozen matches, including six against NESCAC opponents, scheduled for the spring. The men also play a handful of teams down in Orlando, Florida, during the College's two-week spring break.
