Men's cross country places 14th at Williams Purple Valley Classic

The Hamilton College men's cross country team finished in 14th place out of 26 teams at the 2017 Williams Purple Valley Classic, which was held at Mount Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown, Mass., on Saturday.

Peter DeWeirdt '18 led the Continentals in 41st place out of 324 athletes with a time of 27:23.2 on the 8-kilometer course. Lucas Wright '21 was next for Hamilton in 77th place and a time of 27:52.7.

Bryce Murdick '20 ended up in 103rd place with a time of 28:16.2 and Erich Wohl '18 was 120th in 28:29.7. Colin Horgan '19 rounded out the Continentals' top five in 209th place and a time of 29:24.8.

Hamilton wound up with 420 team points in a meet that featured some of the top programs in Division III. Nationally ranked No. 2 SUNY Geneseo captured the team title with 87 points, No. 14 RPI was second with 95, No. 15 Amherst was third (109 points), No. 18 Middlebury was fourth (117), No. 4 Williams was fifth (136), No. 8 Massachusetts Institute of Technology was sixth (144) and No. 24 Dickinson College was eighth (209).

Hamilton competes in Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Saratoga Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 30 at Saratoga Spa State Park.
