Men's cross country places 6th at Saratoga Invitational

The Hamilton College men's cross country team finished in sixth place out of 16 teams at the 2017 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Saratoga Invitational at Saratoga Spa State Park in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., on Saturday.

Hamilton's Peter DeWeirdt '18 took sixth place overall and was the fifth collegiate runner across the finish line (an RPI alumni team competed as well) out of 235 athletes with a time of 25:39.5 on the 8-kilometer course. RPI's Grant O'Connor was the individual winner with a time of 24:56.9.

Lucas Wright '21 grabbed 17th place with a time of 26:04.1 for the Continentals. Erich Wohl '18 crossed the line in 65th place with a time of 27:03.5 and Colin Horgan '19 was exactly one second behind Wohl in 66th place. Reilly Shew '19 rounded out Hamilton's top five in 87th place with a time of 27:23.6. Henry Whipple '18 finished right after Shew with a time of 27:25.6 in his first race this season. Whipple competed in the NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championship last year.

The Continentals registered 163 team points, just two behind Stevens Institute of Technology. Nationally ranked No. 7 RPI won the team title with 37 points, No. 21 Bates College was runner-up with 54 and Vassar College landed in third place with 116.

Hamilton hosts its own annual invitational on Saturday, Oct. 7. The men's race is scheduled to start at 11:45 a.m.
