The Hamilton College men's and women's rowing teams travel to Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. for the 2018 National Invitational Rowing Championships on Friday, May 11. The event also doubles as the NESCAC Championships.
Partly cloudy and 10 to 13 mph winds are expected in Worcester on Friday with the temperature reaching 65 degrees by late afternoon.
The Continentals have one boat entered in the men's and women's varsity eight, second varsity eight and open four. Those same crews raced for Hamilton last weekend in the 2018 New York State Collegiate Championships where both varsity eight boats earned silver medals.
The women's squad was recently announced as the number one team in the NCAA Regional Rankings in the New York region. The varsity eight -- ranked second in the region and tied for sixth in the most recent USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Division III Top 15 national poll -- will be in the fifth heat, which is scheduled to begin at 10:12 a.m. Also in the heat is No. 1 Bates College, No. 6 Williams College, No. 14 Smith College, No. 15 Colby College, Mount Holyoke College and Connecticut College. The first of four women's varsity eight finals begins at 3:44 p.m. Hamilton had a strong showing during their trip to Worcester back on April 9 when they were 2.04 seconds shy from upending the Bates Bobcats.
Racing begins at 8:12 a.m. with the first of two heats in the men's open four. Hamilton is in the second heat at 8:24 with Williams, Bates, University of New Hampshire and Ithaca College. The finals are at 1:12 and 1:24 p.m.
The Continentals are also in the second heat of the women's second varsity eight. Hamilton takes on Williams, Rochester Institute of Technology, William Smith, UNH and Mount Holyoke at 9:12 a.m., and the finals begin at 2:36 p.m.
The men's second varsity eight is slated in the first heat at 9:36 a.m. alongside Hobart College, Tufts University, Boston College, Williams and RIT. The second varsity eight petite final starts at 3:20 p.m. and the grand final is at 3:32 p.m.
At 10:48 a.m., Hamilton is in the first heat of the men's varsity eight, which includes Hobart, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Colby and Trinity College. The third-level final fires off at 4:08 p.m., followed by the petite final at 4:44 p.m. and grand final at 4:56 p.m.
