Big first half lifts Hamilton to shutout NESCAC victory at Bates

The Hamilton College women's soccer team scored twice in the first half for a 2-0 NESCAC victory over Bates College in Lewiston, Maine on Saturday.

The Continentals even their record to 1-1 in both NESCAC play and overall while the Bobcats (1-1 overall) drop to 0-1 in conference action.

Alex Fontana '20 scored the first goal of her Hamilton career and the eventual game winner 8 minutes and three seconds after the opening kickoff. Kayleigh Harris '20 battled for the ball in the right corner and passed to Fontana waiting on the near side of the penalty arc. Fontana one-touched the ball and drilled a shot into the opposite upper ninety of the net.

Just over four minutes later, in the midst of a Hamilton corner, Bates committed a foul inside the box that rewarded the Continentals with a penalty kick. Head Coach, Colette Gilligan called Cat Gambino '21 to the penalty mark and she delivered with a shot inside the left post to gain a two goal lead before the half.

The Bobcats struggled to penetrate the Hamilton defense all game, managing only five shots while the Continentals offense let loose with 18. Rachel Pike '21 gobbled up three saves for her second shutout in three career starts.

Hamilton stays on the road for a non-conference game on Sunday against Sage College at noon, hosted by Albany College of Pharmacy in Albany, N.Y.
