Hamilton College's Cat Gambino '21 scored with 19 seconds left in regulation and lifted the Continentals to a 1-0 NESCAC win against Trinity College at Hamilton's Love Field on Saturday.
Within the final minute of the game, the Continentals were surging into the Bantams' end when Gambino was taken down outside the penalty arc, rewarding Hamilton with an indirect free kick 22 yards out. Cassie Hayward '19 and Gambino stood in front of the ball, screening the Trinity defense, and Gambino tapped the ball backwards to Alex Fontana '20. Fontana drilled a shot into a wall of Bantams and Gambino one-timed the rebound into the lower right corner of the net.
Gambino has registered at least one point in all four games this season for a team-best three goals and seven points.
Rachel Pike '21 made three saves for her second shutout of the season. Taylor O'Connor made 18 saves for Trinity as the Continentals dominated the game with a 37-4 shot advantage.
Hamilton (2-1-1, 2-1 NESCAC) has allowed just one goal in the last three games. Trinity (0-3, 0-2) continues to search for its first win of the season.
The Continentals will have a full week off to prepare for two NESCAC games next weekend. Hamilton hosts Connecticut College on Saturday, Sept. 22 and Middlebury on Sunday. Both games start at 11 a.m.
