Hamilton College racked up 11 hits and drew 12 walks in a 13-1 non-conference victory against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) at Lake Myrtle Sports Park in Auburndale, Florida, on Saturday afternoon.
Brady Slinger '22, Jarrett Lee '21 and Ethan Wallis '21 led the way with two hits each. Rich Marooney '21 walked three times and Craig Sandford '19 and Jordan Northrup '19 walked twice. Joe Suski '21 drove in two runs and nine other Continentals batted in one run. Brian Lawson '21 pitched six innings with four strikeouts while giving up one run on four walks and five hits.
The Continentals (4-0 overall) jumped out to a three-run lead in the top of the first inning. Wallis and Lee kicked off the game with a back-to-back singles and Matt Cappelletti '21 loaded the bases with a one-out walk. Northrup and Marooney followed with back-to back walks to score Wallis and Lee, and Sandford made it 3-0 with a sacrifice fly to right field that drove in Cappelletti.
MCLA (3-5) tallied its lone run in the bottom half of the first. Austin Rachiele led off with a walk, advanced to third after a ground out and a single to left field, and scored on an error by Hamilton's third baseman. Christian Seariac and Diego Rivera accounted for four of the Trailblazers six hits.
Hamilton's Graham McOsker '20 roped a single to left field in the third to score Northrup from second base and Sandford scored on a wild pitch to increase the lead to 5-1.
Twelve Continentals batted in the fifth inning as Hamilton scored six runs on three hits, five walks, two errors and two balks. The Continentals tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh. Slinger singled to center field and Jacob Han '21 doubled to left. Slinger scored on a single by Cam Morosky '22 and Han scored two batters later when Suski lofted a sacrifice fly to center.
Hamilton is back in action on Sunday, March 17 at 12:30 p.m. with a single game against Bard College at Lake Myrtle Field No. 7 in Auburndale.
