Skidmore College's Sarah Winters was credited with three assists in the Thoroughbreds' 3-1 non-conference win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Skidmore's Wagner Park on Tuesday afternoon.
Nationally ranked No. 19 Hamilton (1-2 overall) held an 8-3 shot advantage in the first quarter, but the Thoroughbreds owned a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal by Jordan Mjaatvedt six minutes in. Skidmore's Jess Gaetgens made six of her 11 saves in the quarter. Gaetgens stuffed one breakaway and stopped two second-chance attempts.
Carly Shea gave the Thoroughbreds (1-2) a two-goal cushion with 2:18 left in the half. Gaetgens kept the Continentals off the scoreboard in the first half by stopping three more shots in the second quarter.
Hamilton cut its deficit in half with 5:39 remaining in the third quarter. Sarah Pierpont '21 inserted the ball on a penalty corner and Lizzie Clarke '20 launched a shot that was tipped by Maura Holden '23 past Gaetgens. The goal was the first of Holden's career with the Continentals. Clarke leads the team with three assists and has 15 for her Hamilton career.
Marley Wahler closed out the scoring with an insurance goal for Skidmore with 7:50 to go in the fourth quarter. The Continentals took just one shot in the final 15 minutes.
Maggie Reville '22 turned away five shots for Hamilton. The teams were awarded eight penalty corners apiece.
The Continentals return home for a NESCAC contest against No. 17 Amherst College on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 11 a.m.
