The Hamilton College volleyball team opened the 2018 season with two victories on the first day of SUNY New Paltz's Hawks Invitational on Friday night.
The Continentals posted two 3-0 triumphs, dropping both Mount Saint Mary College (25-9, 25-15, 25-19) and Alfred University (29-27, 25-22, 25-22), respectively.
Nikki Matsuoka '21 led the defensive effort in the first match of the season with 16 digs while also helping the attack with two service aces. Maddy LaPoint '22 recorded 10 digs and three service aces in her first collegiate contest. Giuliana Rankin '20 with eight kills guided the offense, Jane Fanning '22 added seven kills and Claire Kitz '19 pitched in six.
Emma Parkhurst '21 tallied 11 assists and eight digs against Saint Mary and added 16 assists, 10 kills and eight digs against Alfred. Rankin slammed down 15 kills against the Saxons to finish the day with 23 kills. Meghan Wilkinson '19 dished out 18 assists and picked up 10 digs for 25 assists and 17 digs in two matches, and LaPoint served up two more aces in the nightcap.
The Continentals wrap up the invitational on Saturday against St. Lawrence University at noon and SUNY New Paltz at 2 p.m.
